Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes problem which have to be anticipated. Diabetic retinopathy are caused by weakened of blood vessels  in the retina and damage by high glucose levels in the blood. At the time of weakened blood vessels, it was clogged and cause swelling in the eye and then the eye sight becomes blurred.

Even then new blood vessels begin to form, new blood vessels are very weak, so easily broken and may cause blood to seep into the vitreous (the fluid that fills the back of the eye). Blood seepage is going to block the incoming light that could reach the retina. If the conditions of retinopathy gets worse if not taken care of properly , moreover it can lead to blindness due to the formation of scar tissue that pull the retina away from the back of the eye.

There are indicators of diabetic retinopathy :
1. Blurred eye sight for about 2 days
2. Pain on one or both of eyes
3. There is a black spot or beam of light in sight
4. Red eye
5. It's hard to see things from the corner of the eye

Detterence that can be done:
1. Keeping blood sugar levels, blood pressure and cholesterol at normal point
2. Eye examination every year for people with diabetes
3. Laser therapy to treat  the complications of retinopathy, particularly if the disorder is idenntified early.
4. Do the vitrectomy or procedures that aim to remove blood and fluid from the vitreous.

In general, people with diabetes are at greater risk for eye problems. Due to the damage that caused by diabetic retinopathy progresses slowly, early inspection is highly recommended to prevent blindness.
